Copart and IAAI are large auction companies, initially created so that insurers could resell vehicles nationally and internationally. Over time, they have expanded, now offering millions of vehicles in inventory sourced not only from insurers, but also from car rental companies, large dealerships, and even non-profit organizations.

Do I need any special License to be able to buy from Copart and IAAI?

Yes, to have full access to Copart and IAAI inventory, you need to have a dealer license or purchase the FX Motors Broker service. If you sign up for a membership as an individual, without a dealer license, you will only have very limited access to certain types of vehicles. With our service, we provide you with complete access to all inventory without the need for a special license.

What type of cars can I find at Copart and IAAI?

Vehicle types range from wrecked or damaged cars, perfect for repairs or parts, to well-maintained vehicles that have been resold. Additionally, they offer motorcycles, trucks, SUVs, and luxury vehicles. You can also find vehicles for restoration projects or for export.

What kind of titles can I find on Copart and IAAI?

At Copart and IAAI, you can find several types of vehicle titles, including:
Clean Title: Vehicles that have not had serious damage or been considered a total loss by insurers. Salvage Title: Vehicles that have been declared a total loss by an insurer due to significant damage. Rebuild Title (Rebuilt Title): Vehicles repaired after being considered a total loss.
Flood Title: Vehicles that have suffered flood damage.

How do I convert a vehicle with a salvage title to a rebuilt title?

To convert a vehicle with a Salvage title to a Rebuilt title and be able to drive it, you must follow these steps:

  • Repair the vehicle: Make all necessary repairs to make the car safe and meet state standards.
  • State Inspection: Request an inspection by local authorities to verify that repairs were done correctly and the vehicle is safe.
  • Documentation: Submit receipts for repairs and the title change request.
  • Rebuilt title application: If you pass the inspection, you will be able to apply for the Rebuilt title and register the vehicle.
How can I go online to see available inventory at Copart and IAAI?

To access the inventory available on Copart and IAAI, you must create an account, which is FREE. Once registered, you can browse available vehicles using filters such as vehicle type, condition, location, and title type. Both sites allow you to view photos, detailed descriptions, and vehicle history. Although basic access is free, some specific features or auctions may require paid membership.

Can I enter Copart and IAAI yards to see the vehicles in person?

YES, to enter Copart and IAAI yards and see vehicles in person, you need to have a paid membership. This allows you to access the facility on specific days to inspect the vehicles before bidding. Additionally, some locations may limit the number of vehicles you can inspect per visit. It is advisable to check the policies and hours of each yard before planning your visit.

What are the prices for Copart and IAAI paid memberships?

Copart $100 annually
IAAI $200 annually

Do purchases from Copart and IAAI have a guarantee?

Purchases from Copart and IAAI do not include a warranty. Vehicles are sold "as is" or "as-is", meaning there are no guarantees about their condition, operation or history. It is the buyer's responsibility to inspect the vehicle prior to placing a bid. Both sites recommend buyers perform detailed inspections to ensure they understand the condition of the vehicle they are purchasing.

I don't know anything about vehicles, can you help me?

Yes, once you send us the lot number of the vehicle you are interested in, we will review the listing in detail and give you a recommendation based on our experience. However, we make no guarantee on the final result; The decision will always be yours.

Does it include a Carfax report?

Yes, the Carfax report is included in the rate. We review all vehicles before placing a bid and if you win the vehicle, you will receive a copy of the report via email.

Do you offer transportation service?

Yes, we work with Central Dispatcher to coordinate the transportation of your vehicle nationwide. We will need the exact pickup and delivery address.
Note: This service is not included in the vehicle purchase rate.

What other expenses do I have after purchasing my vehicle?

Title Transfer ($150) and 7% Tax on the value of the Vehicle.

Note: If the vehicle has a salvage title and requires inspection, there will be an additional cost, which varies by state.

What types of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, bank transfers and Zelle.

I am not in the United States, can I buy?

Yes, we take care of taking the vehicle to the nearest port for export. Note: Transportation from the auction to the port is not included in the rate and must be covered by the buyer.

I bought a vehicle with a salvage title but I already fixed it, can I use it?

No, you cannot drive a vehicle with a salvage title, even if it is completely repaired, until it passes the DMV inspection and you obtain the rebuilt title.

I already paid for the vehicle, does the title come in my name?

No, FX Motors is the authorized broker to purchase the vehicle. Once we receive the title, we will transfer it to your name.

Why do I have to make a security deposit?

This deposit covers the penalties that Copart and IAAI impose if you do not pay in full for the vehicle within 5 days. If you do not make the payment within the time limit, you will lose your deposit.

How much is the security deposit?
  • Copart: $600 or 10% of the vehicle price, whichever is greater.
  • IAAI: $1,000 or 15% of the vehicle price, whichever is greater.
Do I lose my deposit if I don't win the auction?

No, if you don't win the auction, the deposit will be saved for the next one. If you decide to no longer participate, you will be refunded within 24 hours.

How long do I have to pick up the vehicle after I have paid for it?

You have 3 days to remove it from the auction without incurring additional charges. If you don't pick it up within that time, auctions will start charging storage fees on the fourth day. Therefore, it is important to coordinate the pickup or transportation of the vehicle as soon as possible to avoid these extra costs ($30 daily).

What fees do Copart and IAAI charge?

Both Copart and IAAI charge the following fees per vehicle:

  • Environmental Fee

  • Buyer Fee
